The Great Asset Management Row-off

Charles Davies at Investec Asset Management, alongside some of his colleagues and other industry legends are embarking on a 100,000m rowing event on Friday 7th April – the equivalent to rowing the Channel nine times! Charles tells us how he’s feeling about the challenge and what else he’s getting involved in for CASCAID.

Tell us a little bit about what you’re doing to raise money for CRUK

My challenge is a little crazy as I have decided to do my own pentathlon for CASCAID. From the middle of March to the end of May I will be: skiing 100km downhill in a day (completed 17th March), cycle 100 miles in a day (completed 26th March), row 100,000m on a Concept2 rower in a day (7th April), run 100km in 10 days (10th-19th April) and then swim 100km in a month (through May). The team at Concept2 have kindly lent me three rowing machines for my challenge. On Friday 7th April, with help from my incredible colleagues at Investec Asset Management and wonderful people across the industry, we will spend the day in the atrium at 25 Basinghall Street rowing 300,000m. That’s equivalent to rowing the Channel c.9 times!

Why did you decide to row for CASCAID?

It’s not just the rowing! I was fortunate enough to be part of Helen Wagstaff’s CASCAID charity team – as we each look to take on a 500km challenge! Plus, I work with some incredible colleagues who are passionate about long distance challenges. I needed to do something reasonably tough to get them to sponsor me!

What do you think will be the hardest part of the challenge?

It’s going to be the swim! I still need armbands…!

Who do you think is your main rowing competition?

Probably Peter Brunt at Morningstar. He’s looking like he’s going to get the fastest 5km time!

Are you taking part in any other CASCAID challenges?

Yes, with my colleagues Charlotte Gibson, Fred Dewhurst and Bryan Horne. We are going to support Simon Brazier’s team as they look to complete The Three Peaks challenge in the summer.

Which Ambassador do you think will raise the most amount of money for CASCAID?

My money’s on Rob Burdett and Gary Potter for their tour around the UK in a Robin Reliant. I think this is an incredible commitment and a brave thing to do.

We wish Charles all the best in his CASCAID pentathlon. If you’d like to support him please visit: http://bit.ly/2opHHG7 or pop down to the Investec offices on Friday 7th April between 8am and 6pm to cheer him and his colleagues on.
